Masjid Al Salaam

Mosque and Islamic Education Centre; includes a prayer hall, balcony, children's prayer room, multi-purpose gymnasium, library, 3 classrooms, youth centre, kitchen and underground parking.
One of the features of the design is the internal building courtyard, an outdoor room within the building volume. This brings light deep into all areas of the building, creates a protected outdoor gathering area while providing a layered transition between a tranquil interior and busy Canada Way outside. The minaret is load bearing masonry construction. Calligraphy is expressed in brick, granite, glass and metalwork throughout the building. The masonry detailing is inspired by masonry building in Vancouver's gas town.

Completed 2008, Burnaby B.C.
